Aaron Linsdau has been photographing professionally since 1999.  He originally started with an Canon AE-1 and a 28-80 lens he inherited from his dad.  Quickly discovering how enjoyable the pursuit of excellent images was, he decided to invest a little more to extend the capabilities of his 1970's technology.

Self portrait

As time passed, it became apparent that the tools were not as important as the mental aspect of photography.  Seeing the contrast between different people using high-tech cameras and lenses to create average or spectacular images made that clear.  He saw that even though a person may own a $5,000 600mm f4 lens, it didn't guarantee an original, thought-provoking photograph.  Have you ever noticed that almost all of the grizzly bears of the world are facing right, catching tasty salmon?

Product session in a client's homeEnter thought-provoking education.  Once again, Aaron's dad provided the fodder for further exploration by introducing the name Galen Rowell.  Who was Galen Rowell?  He was a premier photographer from the 1970's to his untimely death in 2002.  He was also my inspiration to look much deeper into the world of images and beyond.  Rowell wrote books not only of the technical aspects of photography but also of the psychological and physiological ramifications of creating and viewing images.  He said that he makes and creates rather than takes photographs.  There is a marked difference.  Visualizing what your image will look like before you release the shutter for 1/125th of a second is key.
