Cairo
Cairo evokes images of pyramids, camels and the mighty Nile
in the minds of just about any person thinking of heading to
visit Egypt. This will likely be your first stop on
any tour to the country. Ironically, Cairo is not
actually a Pharoic city, being constructed in fairly modern
times. What is left of the ancient capital of Memphis
is a short drive away toward Giza, a neighboring
city. Cairo is dirty, mad and wonderful at the same
time. People here will try to sell you anything,
will look at you as a wallet and then someone else will
go out of their way to help you when you are lost. To
walk across the street, you stand in the lane markers as
cars zoom past you on both sides until you can move
again. It is extremely scary but it seems to work
for Carienes (Cairo residents). Expect nothing but
an otherworldly experience in Cairo.
