Mt. Sinai and Monestary of St. Katherine
Called Mount Moses by the Egyptians on the Sinai Peninsula, Mt. Sinai
is a popular day trip to see the sun rise. You will meet
pilgrims, travelers and all other sorts making the strenuous hike. There
is the option to ride a camel most of the way up, saving yourself the
trouble. But what fun is that? The Monastery of St.
Katherine houses the descendent of the burning bush from the story of
Moses. You cannot see it anymore, being behind a wall. You have
to rise at 10pm at night to make the trip, as you begin walking up
the mountain at 2am with a nomad guide, required by the Egyptian
government. It is well worth doing once.
