Meknes

Meknes is the one Imperial City of Morocco that does not feel like one. You will likely receive very little hassle, people don’t try and extract money out of you for photographs like in Marrakech and it is possible to see the major sites of Meknes in a day or two. The dictator king Sultan Moulay Ismail constructed a palace in the city and had greater plans than what was built. El-Hdim, the main square of Meknes, is far more tame than Djeema el-Fna in Marrakech but still well worth the visit.
