Kyoto
Kyoto was settled in the 7th century, laid out in a grid pattern according to
Chinese geomancy adopted from
Xi'an, China and was the capital of Japan from 794 to 1868. &Samurai also moved into
the region and began muscling their way into the Imperial Court, causing all sorts
of excitement. Today, Kyoto is a cultural capital of Japan, where you can see
how the old world blendeds into post-modern neon lighting. Kyoto is home to
no less than 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites and the city itself is a World Heritage
City. Kyoto was completely spared in World War II. Air commanders were ordered s
not to bomb the Imperial Palace in Tokyo or Kyoto at all because of the hatred that act
would have instilled in the Japanese. Cooler heads saved this wonderful historic city
for our future enjoyment.
