Birmingham
The original Pittsburg of the South, Birmingham Alabama rose as a
steel making capital during the Industrial Revolution. There was at
one time more money in people in Birmingham than New York City, due to
the massive growth of industry. As economies changed, Birmingham
floundered and went through difficult times. The Civil Rights era
was especially difficult in Birmingham, once receiving the moniker of
Bombingham due to the horrible rash of race related bombings during
the 1950s and 1960s. As things calmed down in the South, Birmingham
has risen up again, becoming a center of medical research, banking,
art and technology.
