Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest
The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest is located in the White Mountains, east
of the Owens Valley and the Sierra range. The discovery of the
uniqueness of this place is very recent. Acting on a rumor, Dr.
Edmund Schulman discovered how ancient these trees were in 1953, almost
by accident. Over several years of research, he and C.W. Ferguson
found the oldest living thing on the planet, the 4,723 year old
Methuselah tree, in 1957. Now, you can
easily drive up and visit these ancients, many of which germinated during the
Old Kingdom of Egypt, when the Great Pyramids of Giza were
constructed. Consider that, as you stand face to face with these
gnarled conifers.
