Natural Bridges National Monument
Defined by three stone bridges, Natural Bridges National Monument is the oldest
National Monument in the state of Utah, as it was established in 1908. The Kachina,
Owachomo and Sipapu bridges were carved by meandering streams, slowly eroding
away the soft sandstone of the area. Rich in Native American Culture,
Natural Bridges is an area that was repeatedly occupied and abandoned throughout
history as the climate of the era changed. During this time, the canyon
has been occupied periodically from 7000 B.C.
to the Puebloan migration in the 1300’s, and then again by the Navajos and
Paiutes in more recent history.
